Juan Diego Flórez has made a name for himself especially as a belcanto specialist. With the "zarzuela" he returns to the genre with which he, as a young singer and composer of folk songs, opened the world of opera on his newly established label "Florez". "These romances full of passion and emotion represent an almost unique opportunity for Spanish and Latin American tenors to sing in their mother tongue," he says and describes his close affinity with this Spanish form of opéracomique or operetta, which is very well known and popular in the Spanish world, but less so in other countries. "This recording production fills me of course with joy and pride. First because it is my first recording with the youth orchestra and choir of Sinfonía por el Perú - a social movement that wants to improve the lives of Peruvian children and young people through the collective practice of music; secondly because it was made in Lima, my birthplace; and thirdly because it marks the launch of my own record label."
