Ana Pi – Atomic Joy

In Atomic Joy, choreographer Ana Pi turns joy into an act of resistance. Eight street dancers from Paris deliver an explosive choreography set to music by Christophe Chassol, inspired by dance styles from the African diaspora. Can joy become a form of resistance in a world on the brink of the abyss? Brazilian choreographer Ana Pi goes even further and transforms her Atomic Joy into a refreshing bomb that clears space so we can collectively reinvent ourselves. Ana Pi explores Afro-diasporic dance and urban dance in her work. Her practice, nourished by travel, revolves around concepts such as transit, displacement, belonging, and memory. This layering also resonates in Atomic Joy, where movement and meaning continually intertwine. For this creation, she calls upon eight young dancers from Paris's street dance scene. They draw from the rich movement language of dances from the African diaspora and the tension of street battles to create a powerful performance. To the sounds of an original composition by pianist Christophe Chassol, they invite you to celebrate in this whirlwind of a dance performance.
