In Hornfuckers Diana Niepce investigates how bodies respond to a world out of balance. Six dancers move across a steep inclined plane in a physical choreography about control, obedience and the influence of political systems. Do you sometimes feel that reality is slipping away from you? According to Portuguese writer, choreographer and theatre maker Diana Niepce, nothing is coincidence. Even the most incomprehensible chaos follows a pattern. Niepce is regarded as one of the most striking voices in contemporary Portuguese dance. A serious accident at age 28 changed her life and her relationship to movement and dance. In Hornfuckers she investigates her own physical presence with minimal scenography and places the non-normative body at the centre - not as a victim, but as a force. Six dancers move across a steep inclined plane. They slide, cling on and constantly search for balance. From that unstable situation, Niepce shows the body not as a passive object, but as a force that responds to a world out of balance. In this way, the performance investigates how political and social systems steer our behaviour. Who are we? How free are we really? The result is a physical, provocative choreography that questions universal principles. As Niepce puts it: 'We play a game of obedience, according to a logic that questions hierarchy.'
