Romance for voice and strings Guitarist Emma Wills, cellist Octavie Dostaler-Lalonde and soprano Fleur Strijbos form an exceptional trio that creates sound possibilities that are rarely heard. The programme with intimate and virtuosic miniatures from the 19th century makes a grand tour through Europe. In Spain, guitar and voice have long shared a folk tradition, composers such as Fernando Sor and Pablo de Sarasate sent that sound out into the wide world. Alongside arrangements by Louis Spohr and Fanny Hensel-Mendelssohn, you will also hear works by Frédéric Burgmüller and Friedrich Dotzauer who enlisted cello and guitar in subtle, contrapuntal dialogues. A name never to be forgotten is that of Pauline Viardot, whose songs are heard in new arrangements.
