Fleur Khani presents ZAN, a new opera with musical composition by Kimia Koockackzadeh-Yazdi. Persian mythology and contemporary themes converge in a compelling search for rebirth, hope and collective strength. ZAN is a new opera by Fleur Khani about the desire for liberation that is never fully fulfilled. The work unfolds in a fragmented landscape of voices, mirrors and electronics. Languages flow into one another, time shifts and distorts. What appears as history feels simultaneously like today's reality. In ZAN, the voice is central as a space that cannot be taken away, but is continuously under pressure. In her musical composition, Kimia Koockackzadeh-Yazdi interweaves spiritual traditions, contemporary electronic music, grief, trance, anger and tenderness. Thus the opera moves between devastation and devotion, between technological coldness and ecstatic intensity. Light and scenography reference Ayeneh-Kari, the Persian art of mirror mosaics. Those reflective surfaces embody a fragmented collective identity and the desire to be seen as we truly are.
