Jeremy Nedd – slidin' thru

In Slidin' thru Jeremy Nedd returns to social dancing from the 1970s. With two performers he shows how dance, participation and community can be a joyful form of resistance in uncertain times. 'What can you do when the modern world order collapses before your eyes and all the rights that have been fought for for years are carelessly thrown out the window?' For choreographer Jeremy Nedd the answer is clear: come together and dance. With two fellow dancers he explores the nostalgic social dances that emerged in the 1970s in the US. These dances were about participation, not performance. With their simple choreographies they invited participation and served as a tool for social cohesion and community building. Nedd uses them here to frame the past with an anxious eye on the future, but also to demonstrate that dance can be a joyful form of resistance in difficult times. Slidin' thru shows that what is happening today we have endured before, and that we will get through it together now as well. This performance takes place on location in a basketball hall, as part of the city festival Dear Antwerp.
