Elsa von Brabant is summoned by the king to answer for the death of her missing brother. She entrusts her fate to God and to a knight she saw in a dream who must defend her honor. Drawn by a swan, the knight appears in a boat and comes to Elsa's aid, on one condition: she must never ask his name or origin. As the protector of Brabant and Elsa's husband, their happiness seems complete — were it not for the vengeful duo Telramund and Ortrud who want to seize power, even if it means poisoning Elsa's innocent soul.
