During his festive inauguration as chief conductor of Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Marc Albrecht makes a statement of great significance. Together with the choir and children's choir of Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, he performs Gustav Mahler's Third Symphony, a monumental masterpiece that begins tragically in the chaos of creation and ends in the endless light of God. Along the way, Mahler explores the great questions surrounding human destiny and the primordial forces of nature. These are themes that also lie close to Albrecht's heart. At his debut with Antwerp Symphony Orchestra in 2024, he conducted Richard Strauss's Also sprach Zarathustra, a work that – like Mahler's Third Symphony – found its origin in the eponymous text by Friedrich Nietzsche. Marc Albrecht does not let go of you for a moment with this masterpiece.
