Marching to Schubert The Austrian composer Franz Schubert died at a young age but left behind an extensive body of work, including more than 600 songs. Shortly before his death, he composed his famous Winterreise. In a cycle of 24 songs for voice and piano, we follow a wanderer during his solitary journey through a winter landscape, estranged from the world and struggling with himself. Leading American choreographer Trajal Harrell has long explored the relationship between dancing and walking. Starting from queer subcultures from the ballroom scene and styles such as voguing, he consistently has his dancers parade on a catwalk – as also in Winterreise. Set to Schubert's music, Harrell choreographs a fashion show that presents a collection of winter coats. For the first time in his career, he works with dancers from a ballet company. How do they relate to the universe through which their catwalk passes? And what is playing out underneath the fashionable winter coats?
