Arne Nordheim: The Tempest - Suite from the Ballet

Arne Nordheim was Norway's most significant and respected composer until his death in 2010, and one of the few figures in contem­porary western music who proved himself able to move beyond traditional harmonic re­lationships while maintaining a distinct ability to communicate widely through his striking, physical music. Le Bergen Philharmonic a été loin d'être épargné par la puissance de cette musique, la défendant tout au long de la vie du compositeur et créant sa première œuvre orchestrale, Canzona, ainsi que sa dernière, Fonos. Il a donné plusieurs représentations des œuvres orchestrales de Nordheim et a enregistré Tenebrae (Cello Concerto), Aurora et Wirklicher Wald. En 1992, Nordheim a été le sujet d'une focus spéciale au Bergen International Festival, où l'orchestre a créé Magic Island – une version révisée de Be Not Afeard (le point de départ de The Tempest).
