Cello Suites + Documentary

A new instrument, new sonorities, and new insights motivated Pieter Wispelwey to make this new recording of Bach’s integral Cello Suites. The DVD which is released as a bonus to the double CD was shot in the unique historical ambiance of Wadham and Magdalen college, Oxford: it features Wispelwey in musical and scholarly interaction with acclaimed Bach researchers Laurence Dreyfus and John Butt. It bears testimony to the unfathomableness and eminence of this music that so much remains to be (re)discovered in it for a virtuoso who has played it close to a thousand times on stage.
