The saxophone was invented as a substitute for the strings during open-air performances, and it is first in full orchestral scores that the listener is able to value this highly adaptable sound for all that it is worth. Nothing is missing in Hans Zimmer’s Pirates of the Caribbean; on the contrary, Christoph Enzel’s arrangements show these instruments can easily manage and create a wonderful sound with this music.
