The+importance+and+quality+of+Poulenc%26%2339%3Bs+Sonata+for+Flute+and+Piano+formed+the+basic+idea+for+this+recording.+It+would+have+been+easy+to+put+together+a+programme+of+the+%26quot%3BGroupe+des+Six%26quot%3B%2C+of+which+Poulenc+was+one.+However%2C+this+has+been+done+many+times+before%2C+hence+the+choice+of+a+less+predictable+and+more+adventurous+programme.+Only+two+other+members+of+the+group+are+included%2C+Arthur+Honegger+and+Germaine+Tailleferre%2C+simply+because+their+music+fits+in+so+well+with+the+whole.+%3Cbr+%2F%3EPaul+Taffanel+deserves+a+place+here+as+founder+of+the+French+flute+school%3B+Charles+Koechlin+as+Poulenc%26%2339%3Bs+teacher%3B+and+Henri+Dutilleux%2C+for+writing+a+song+in+memory+of+Poulenc%2C+but+who+is+represented+with+his+Sonatine%2C+a+jewel+of+the+flute+repertoire.+The+Dutch+composers+Jan+Bus+and+Bart+Visman+let+themselves+to+be+inspired+by+Poulencs+sonata%2C+and+both+have+contributed+a+fine+new+piece+to+the+flute+repertoire.+%3Cbr+%2F%3EFinally+there+is+a+Jewish+composer+who+died+during+World+War+II%2C+Dick+Kattenburg.+He+was+strongly+influenced+by+Milhaud+and+Poulenc+and+composed+his+sonata+at+the+age+of+17.+%3Cbr+%2F%3E+%3Cbr+%2F%3EAbbie+de+Quant+studied+with+Jan+Prins+and+Koos+Verheul.+In+1970+she+graduated+%26quot%3Bsumma+cum+laude%26quot%3B+with+a+soloist%26%2339%3Bs+degree.+During+her+studies+she+took+a+course+with+Severino+Gazzelloni%2C+receiving+the+%26quot%3Bdiploma+di+onore%26quot%3B+from+the+Accademia+Chigiana+in+Siena.+She+won+many+national+and+international+competitions+and+in+1973+was+awarded+the+Prix+d%26%2339%3BExcellence.+%3Cbr+%2F%3EShe+has+appeared+as+a+soloist+with+many+leading+orchestras%2C+esp.+The+Royal+Concertgebouw+Orchestra%2C+with+conductors+such+as+Sir+Neville+Marriner%2C+Luciano+Berio%2C+Roberto+Benzi%2C+Kenneth+Montgomery%2C+Ton+Koopman%2C+Ed+spanjaard.+She+has+performed+in+Europe%2C+the+Middle+East+and+the+Far+East%2C+and+has+appeared+frequently+on+radio+and+television+and+made+numerous+recordings.+%3Cbr+%2F%3EFor+33+years+Abbie+de+Quant+taught+at+the+Utrecht+Conservatory%2C+and+she+is+still+connected+with+the+Amsterdam+Conservatory.+%3Cbr+%2F%3ESince+1992+she+has+her+own+series+in+the+Kleine+Zaal+of+Amsterdam%26%2339%3Bs+Concertgebouw%2C+in+which+each+programme+contains+at+least+one+composition+specially+written+for+her.+Her+repertoire+extends+from+the+Baroque+through+to+contemporary+Western+and+Asian+music.
