Most of the compositions on this album come from the Ets Haim library of the Portuguese synagogue in Amsterdam. This synagogue was built in 1675 by Jewish immigrants from Spain and Portugal who were escaping persecution. This is a wonderful collection of Jewish vocal and instrumental music, beautifully played by the Netherlands based Apollo Ensemble.
