Schubert 1 & Dvořák 9

WHY TO COUPLE SCHUBERT & DVO Ř ÁK ? Not only because the artistic Director ADAM FISCHER and his Duesseldorf Symphonic are perfect partners as shown and prooved of the Mahler cycle, they recorded between 2016-2021. There is a story behind the Schubert / Dvořák coupling: In an US magazine The Century Illustrated (New York 1894) Dvořák wrote an extensive feauture on Schubert as a forward looking composer, inventing many compositional details in his works etc.. Schubert's symphonies seemed to have been fairly unknown in the US at the end of the 19th century and Dvořák seemed to have forced himself to break a lance for his early Romantic colleague, categorizing him also into the top 5 league of world class composers, next to Mozart, Bach, Beethoven and placing him over Mendelssohn and Schumann. It is remarkable to read the full length article by Dvořák as an anthem written for his soul mate Franz Schubert, full of excitement and admiration. This feature leads to a new - or better - different and additional view on Schubert's symphonic works - and Adam Fischer does know the two composers very well.
