It is impossible to describe Alain Craens' music in one word: it can be tonal at times, atonal or free tonal at others. It often exhibits characteristics of impressionism, minimalism, or jazz. Sometimes it suggests certain tones or tonal centers, but above all it wants to be accessible. After the era of complex modernism, in which experiment occupied a central place, Craens believes that returning to a normal relationship with the audience is essential. Music may again be just beautiful, without ulterior motives. In this way, the composer strives to build bridges between his own individual expression, and his audience.
