Boris Giltburg

Boris Leonidovitsj Giltburg (Hebrew: בוריס גילטבורג, Russian: Борис Леонидович Гильтбург) (Moscow, 21 June 1984) is an Israeli classical pianist.

Giltburg was born in Russia and started piano lessons at the age of five, which were given by his mother. He later moved to Israel and studied from 1995 to 2007 in Tel Aviv with Arie Vardi.

In 2002 he won second prize at the Paloma O'Shea International Piano Competition in Spain, where he performed Béla Bartók's third piano concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra. Since then, Giltburg has performed with, among others, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2011 he won second prize at the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition.

On 1 June 2013 he won the Queen Elisabeth Competition for piano, in whose final he performed, among other pieces, Rachmaninov's third piano concerto. In the semi-final of the competition he had experienced a remarkable black-out during the performance of Mozart's 15th piano concerto. He also received the audience prize, awarded by the VRT.
