Jonathan Dove

Jonathan Dove (18 July 1959) is a British composer of opera, choral, theatre, orchestra and chamber music.

Jonathan Dove was born in London as the son of an architect couple. He studied composition with Robin Holloway at the University of Cambridge. After his graduation, he worked among other things as a rehearsal pianist at the Glyndebourne Opera Festival, where he received his first composition commission. From 2001 to 2006 he was artistic director of the Spitalfields Festival in London.
Dove arranged a number of operas for the English Touring Opera and the City of Birmingham Touring Opera (now called Birmingham Opera Company). For the latter company, he made in 1990 an arrangement of Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen for 18 players. This production was to be seen in 2012 under the title Ringetje at De Nederlandse Opera. Earlier, Dove was heard in the Netherlands with the opera Kwasi en Kwame with a libretto by Arthur Japin, which premiered on 26 October 2007 at the Rotterdamse Schouwburg.
Jonathan Dove has been a Commander of the Order of the British Empire since 2019 and has been entitled to use the letters CBE after his name since then.
