Artist
Jozef De Beenhouwer
Jozef De Beenhouwer (Brasschaat, 26 March 1948) is a Flemish pianist, music pedagogue and musicologist.
He received his first piano lessons at the age of five from his grandfather. Already as a child he built up extensive repertoire knowledge, with a particular fondness for the music of Robert Schumann. From 1964 onwards he studied with Lode Backx, first privately; later, after completing his studies at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (diploma as pharmacist, 1970), at the Muziekkapel Koningin Elisabeth in Argenteuil (graduate, 1974) and at the Koninklijk Vlaams Muziekconservatorium (Higher Diploma for piano, summa cum laude (= highest distinction), 1975). Another important influence on Jozef De Beenhouwer was David Kimball, with whom he took private lessons in Firenze between 1991 and 1998.
As a soloist, both in recitals and with orchestra, he has performed in a large number of concert halls and has made radio and television recordings in many European countries (Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Portugal, France, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Czechoslovakia...), in South Korea and in the United States. As a song accompanist he has worked amongst others with Ria Bollen, Nina Stemme, Robert Holl and Werner Van Mechelen.
