Artist
Lorenzo Gatto
Lorenzo Gatto (Brussels, 2 December 1986) is a Belgian violinist. In 2009 he achieved second place in the Queen Elisabeth Competition 2009 (for violin).
Young Gatto received lessons according to the Suzuki method at age 5 at the urging of his parents, where playing enjoyment was central. This was followed by lessons according to a more classical pattern. At age 12, he enrolled at the Koninklijk Conservatorium te Brussel, where he won first prize for violin. Subsequently, he was admitted to the Muziekkapel Koningin Elisabeth. Two years later, he distinguished himself with the higher diploma. He then perfected his skills in the class of Augustin Dumay and Herman Krebbers.
Since 2005 he has been studying in the class of Boris Kuschnir at the Conservatorium te Wenen. Gatto has performed at institutions such as the Paleis voor Schone Kunsten te Brussel, the Salle Cortot, the Bridgewater Hall. He is regularly invited to international music festivals. The violinist has soloed with orchestras such as the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, the Charlemagne Orchestra and the Koninklijke Kamerorkest van Wallonië. Lorenzo Gatto plays a violin by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume on loan from the vzw Carlo Van Neste.
In 2007 he founded the vzw Cl4ssiK together with other musicians with the aim of making classical music more accessible to a young audience.
