Louise van den Heuvel

Louise van den Heuvel ('s-Gravenhage, 15 January 1997) is a Dutch bassist, composer and teacher. She has collaborated with artists such as Zwangere Guy, Lander Gyselinck and Bruno Vansina. Since 2023, van den Heuvel has also been making neo-soul with French/Brussels-based singer STACE. More recently she works with Bex. With her former teacher and "mentor" Stéphane Galland, also known from Aka Moon, van den Heuvel plays in the Rhythm Hunters, The Gallands and Kanda. She also has her own ensembles Dishwasher_ and Sonic Hug.

Van den Heuvel started playing acoustic guitar at age seven, but switched to electric at twelve under the influence of Jimi Hendrix. As a teenager she was a big fan of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and when she was fifteen years old, she bought a grass-green Flea Jazz bass guitar by the brand Fender because of her idol Flea. After that, jazz great Jaco Pastorius and female bassists such as Tal Wilkenfeld and Esperanza Spalding became her role models. After her bachelor studies at the Maastricht Conservatory, she goes to Ghent for her master's degree. In 2021 she graduates cum laude from the Koninklijk Conservatorium van Brussel. Her graduation project focuses on the renovation of sound by mixing modern music technologies and effect pedals.
