Martijn Dendievel

Martijn Dendievel (Oostende, 27 December 1995) is a Belgian conductor. He is chief conductor of the Hofer Symphoniker and since the 2025-2026 season chief conductor of Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen.

Martijn Dendievel grew up in a musical family in Oostkamp and began lessons in violin, cello, recorder and percussion. He subsequently studied music theory and cello at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel and continued his training as a conductor at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar, with Nicolás Pasquet. He attended conducting masterclasses with Bernard Haitink, Paavo Järvi, Iván Fischer and Edo de Waart.

During his studies he was appointed assistant conductor of Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen, where he was already associated with the orchestra as associate conductor. On 14 July 2023 it was announced that from September 2024 he would become chief conductor of the Hofer Symphoniker. He has also conducted, among others, the Concertgebouworkest, the WDR Sinfonieorkest, MDR-Sinfonieorchester, Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest, the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Brussels Philharmonic, the Staatskapelle Weimar, the Jenaer Philharmonic and the Nationaal Orkest van België. At the Italian Teatro Comunale di Bologna he regularly conducts opera productions and symphonic concerts, including Le Nozze van Figaro and Don Giovanni.
