Masato Suzuki

Masato Suzuki (Japanese: 鈴木優人, Suzuki Masato) (The Hague, April 8, 1981) is a Japanese composer, conductor, harpsichordist, organist and pianist.

Suzuki was born into a musical family and received his first lessons from his father Masaaki Suzuki, a harpsichordist, organist and conductor of the "Bach Collegium Japan" and from his mother Tamaki, a renowned singer. He studied composition at the Tokyo University of the Arts in Tokyo with Atsutada Otaka and at the institute for early music at the same university where he graduated with his father with a master's degree and a dissertation on Dutch Calvinists. Already during his studies in Tokyo, he gained experience as a conductor of the choir Bach Kantate Club and received important musical impulses from pianist Michio Kobayashi. He further studied organ with Jos van der Kooy at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, where he obtained his master's degree cum laude. From September 2007 he studied at the same conservatory organ improvisation and also studied harpsichord at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Bob van Asperen. He further studied in masterclasses for piano, hammerklavier as well as song accompaniment with Konrad Richter, Tomoko Kato, Roger Vignoles, Tohru Kimura, Jakob Stämpfli, Satoru Sunahara and Stanley Hoogland.
