Maya Fridman
Maya Fridman (Moscow, 7 November 1989) is a Russian cellist, singer and composer. She lives and works in the Netherlands.
Maya Fridman studied in Moscow at the Moscow State College of Music and then at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Dmitry Ferschtman, where she graduated cum laude.
Fridman has worked with various musicians and ensembles, including Maarten van Veen, Merel Vercammen, Faun, Farid Sheek, Asko❘Schönberg and Noord Nederlands Toneel.
She has performed on various major venues and festivals, including Koninklijk Concertgebouw, Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, TivoliVredenburg, Concertgebouw De Vereeniging, Into The Great Wide Open and Grachtenfestival. Maya Fridman was artist in residence at TivoliVredenburg and November Music. Since 2020 Maya Fridman has formed Dareyn with among others Emine Bostanci (kemenche). Dareyn has performed at, among others, Grachtenfestival, Music Meeting, November Music and Festival Europäische Kirchenmusik.
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Maya Fridman has organized benefit concerts for Ukraine. In March 2022, together with Ukrainian pianist Anna Fedorova, she was one of the initiators of the Concert for Peace at Concertgebouw. In the documentary United We Stand, director David van Tijn followed Fridman during her efforts to raise funds for Ukraine.
Fridman is Artist & Repertoire Manager at record label TRPTK.
