Raaf Hekkema
Raaf Hekkema (1968) is a classical saxophonist.
Hekkema has become known for his arrangements. As a chamber musician and as a soloist he performs concerts all over the world. He is a member and co-founder of the Calefax Rietkwintet, for which he wrote about a hundred arrangements. He studied composition for a number of years under, among others, Tristan Keuris. In October 2007 Hekkema received the Echo Klassik, the CD prize of the German Phonoakademie, as Instrumentalist of the Year for his solo CD with the capricci by Nicolò Paganini for saxophone, a prize that was awarded during a live television gala (ZDF).
In 2020 Hekkema was appointed a member of the Akademie van Kunsten.
