The Brussels Chamber Music Festival celebrates its fifth anniversary next weekend (5-7 October). After four successful editions, each time a memorable musical feast, the participating musicians are eager to set the barn of Molenbeekse Kasteel Karreveld ablaze with sound. Classical remains the main course, but there is also jazz and folk to enjoy.
The Loco Motive Trio (cello-violin-double bass) opens the festival on Friday evening in a colourful mix of styles (20:15).
On Saturday afternoon (15:30) you will first hear Schubert's emotional Schwanengesang, with Shadi Torbey and pianist Lucas Blondeel, who will perform beautiful yet mysterious music for piano, violin and clarinet together with Nicolas Dupont and Roeland Hendrikx in the evening (20:15).
The festival ends on Sunday with the exciting Duo Walning. Sébastien Walnier and Alexander Gurning will perform a 100% Beethoven programme in the early evening (18:00).
Brahms weekend: co-productions at Flagey
This year the festival also works closely with Flagey. As part of the Brahms weekend, also from 5 to 7 October, there are two more co-productions in the works in studio 1. On Friday afternoon there is 'picnic with Brahms' (12:30). Jean-Luc Votano (clarinet), Han Bin Yoon (cello) and Julien Beurms (piano) combine his first clarinet trio (opus 114) with a work by Alexander Zemlinsky (opus 3). Finally, young jazz pianist Thomas Enhco will also be inspired by the great Brahms. You can hear his improvisations on Saturday 6 October (18:00).
