The Flemish Government, at the initiative of the Cabinet of Prime Minister Jan Jambon and production company Sylvester, has appointed Dirk Brossé as curator and conductor of the event "Zie ons doen: Vlaams openingsfeest Europees Voorzitterschap 2024".
On 1 January 2024, Belgium will assume the presidency of the European Union for a period of six months. To mark this important occasion, Flanders will also celebrate. On 6 January 2024, Dirk Brossé will conduct the opening concert, which will take place on the covered Great Market Square of Mechelen. The programme brings together in a unique and integrated way what Flanders has to offer in the fields of, among others, music, literature, film, history, art and dance.
During this event, there will be the launch of the campaign clip "Zie ons doen", a literary moment with Wim Opbrouck, the musical creation of haiku's by Herman Van Rompuy, a fragment from the successful nature documentary "Onze Natuur" and performances by classical soprano Charlotte Wajnberg, musical theatre singers Laura Seys, jazz saxophonist Frank Debruyne, Flemish artists Bart Peeters, Laura Tesoro, Coely, Metejoor, Aaron Blommaert, Gunther Neefs and Dutch-Belgian singer of Moroccan descent Katneuf. All of this will be accompanied by the Prima La Musica orchestra and choir under the direction of Dirk Brossé.
This concert will be recorded by the VRT and broadcast on VRT 1 and VRT Max the same evening.
