Parker's musical prowess graced London orchestras and chamber groups, while he also found his creative home as an important member of The Barrow Poets. He was a true master of versatility, providing original instrumental music and accompanying a diverse array of spoken or sung poetry by the rest of the band.
As his passion for composing and conducting flourished, Parker achieved early successes. He set the poetic verses of Sir John Betjeman to music in a series of acclaimed recordings. Albums such as "Banana Blush", "Late Flowering Love", "Sir John Betjeman's Britain" and "Varsity Rag" became beloved treasures for both listeners and critics.
In the field of film and television scores, Parker's genius was truly felt. He won the prestigious British Academy Award for Best Original Television Music no fewer than four times and composed scores for more than two hundred programmes. From "Moll Flanders" to "House of Cards, from "Midsomer Murders" to "The House of Eliott", his work painted emotions across screens and hearts.
His concert compositions encompass various genres, with works dedicated to ensembles such as the Nash Ensemble, Philip Jones Brass, The Hilliard Ensemble, The Albion Ensemble, The Wallace Collection and Poems on the Underground.
