LIFE
Luka Šulić gained international recognition as half of the international phenomenon 2Cellos from Croatia. After an impressive career touring the world, Luka decided to take a break in 2019. He stepped away from the intense touring life to focus on his family and creative development. The result is LIFE, an album full of previously unreleased compositions, in which Šulić explores his deepest emotions and artistic freedom. The album, released by Platoon on 22 March 2024, is a personal and musical journey that takes the listener along lush harmonies, enchanting strings and the distinctive, expressive cello sounds of Luka.
A 'smooth' beginning
The father of this musical genius, himself a cellist, taught his son to play from the age of five. Ten years later, he entered the music academy in Zagreb as one of the youngest students ever, in the class of professor Valter Dešpalj. He continued his studies in Vienna and London. In January 2011, Luka decided to upload a cello version of Smooth Criminal by Michael Jackson to YouTube together with former cello rival Stjepan Hauser. Within a few weeks, their video went viral and was viewed almost immediately more than 7 million times. This was followed by a record deal with Sony MASTERWORKS and an invitation to join Elton John on a world tour. The rest is history: 2Cellos conquered the world.
Back to the roots
With LIFE, Šulić returns to his composition roots and wants to emphasize the importance of creative freedom within the world of classical music. Maintaining an open mind is essential not to stagnate in your musical development.

Luka believes that ultimate expression is only possible if you create something yourself. During the period at home with his family, his creativity had the chance to develop organically. The compositions on LIFE are deeply rooted in his personal experiences and emotions, with influences from nature, family bonds and the kaleidoscope of joy and struggle in life. That layering and sincerity make his music timeless and universal.
