MA Academy is a new biennial initiative in collaboration with Il Gardellino, B'Rock and Concertgebouw Brugge. Young musicians gather for a week in Brugge to work under the direction of Bertrand Cuiller and together with soprano Déborah Cachet on a programme featuring the most beautiful works of Jean-Philippe Rameau.
Coaching
The participants are supported and guided by top coaches from B'Rock Orchestra and Il Gardellino.

For five days, the 33 participants will attend various workshops both individually and in groups with these renowned coaches. The workshop concludes with a concert at Concertgebouw Brugge as part of the MA Festival programme.
Fatal amour
On Tuesday, August 9, the workshop concludes with a concert at Concertgebouw Brugge. The young musicians will perform together with the coaches and soprano Deborah Cachet a programme of Rameau. All under the direction of Bertrand Cuiller.
At first, Rameau was primarily known as a philosophe through his Traité de l'harmonie, a scientific approach to music. When he presented his operas, he therefore received no warm welcome from les Parisiens. The public did not expect that someone who spoke with such theoretical knowledge about scales and chords could write delightful music. Nothing could have been further from the truth!
His first successes as an opera composer were achieved with Hippolyte et Aricie, Les Indes Galantes and his masterpiece Castor et Pollux. La vraie musique est le langage du coeur, was Rameau's adage. And his arias are a glorious example of this with their lavish harmonies and sweet melodies. Ultimately the Parisian public embraced him and you will undoubtedly do the same after this evening.
