Martijn Dendievel started as assistant conductor at Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen in spring 2018. From season 2023–24, Dendievel will continue his assistantship at the orchestra as 'associate conductor'. During that period, he will focus on the oeuvre of Dvořák. From January 13 to 19, 2022, he conducts A New World as his first independent production with the orchestra.
Since 2018, the orchestra has offered Martijn Dendievel the opportunity to learn and grow, gain experience, and master the various aspects of conducting. As 'associate conductor', Dendievel remains responsible for several talent development projects, including the youth orchestra SOV Young. Additionally, from season 2023–24 onwards, he will conduct three consecutive seasons of a concert production based on the symphonic oeuvre of Antonín Dvořák.
Martijn Dendievel has been achieving impressive results for some time, also internationally. His most important recent accomplishments include: winner of our Golden Label Debut (2020), winner of the Deutscher Dirigentenpreis from the German Music Council (2021); first prize at the Conductors' Academy organized by Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich and Paavo Järvi (2021); selection for the International Conducting Competition Rotterdam (taking place in 2022). In early 2022, he announced his affiliation with the internationally renowned agency IMG Artists.
From January 13 to 19, 2022, Martijn Dendievel conducts A New World, the first official production for Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen that he independently leads. He does so in the company of Dutch star violinist Rosanne Philippens at Concertgebouw Brugge, Muziekcentrum De Bijloke Gent, DE SINGEL Antwerpen, and Stadsschouwburg Kortrijk. The program features Dvořák's 9th Symphony together with works by Korngold and Janssens.
