The traditional German orchestra Hofer Symphoniker, which profiles itself both as the orchestra of the city of Hof and of the Oberfranken region, has a unique structure. In addition to 11 symphonic concerts per season in the Freiheitshalle, the orchestra also performs the opera and ballet productions of the Theater Hof. Moreover, a music school is affiliated with the orchestra. Nearly all musicians are involved in these three pillars. Martijn Dendievel, born and raised in Brugge, will conduct both the symphonic concerts in Hof and the region, as well as build bridges between the students at the music school and the orchestra, in the form of "side-by-side" projects.
Since 2021, Dendievel has been a regular guest conductor with this orchestra. After the concert in November 2022, which featured the symphony by César Franck as well as the saxophone concerto by John Adams, the orchestra board wrote a letter conveying their wish to appoint Dendievel as chief conductor to the intendant. At the same time, the intendant was already in contact with his agent (Federico Benigni | IMG Artists) to take the first steps in this direction.
In the upcoming season, Martijn, as Designierter Chefdirigent (future chief conductor), will conduct five New Year's concerts as well as two regular concert programs. The world-renowned violinists Vadim Gluzman and Liya Petrova will come to the small Bavarian city of Hof to perform the violin concerto by Vasks and The Lark Ascending by Vaughan-Williams respectively. The concert with Vadim Gluzman will be recorded and broadcast by Deutschlandfunk Kultur, and during the season finale with Liya Petrova, The Planets by Holst will also be on the program.
Our young Flemish star conductor will open his first season as chief conductor with the Manfred Symphony by Tsjaikovski. Furthermore, in 2024-2025, the German premiere of the piano concerto by Doreen Carwithen is on the program, as well as the h-minor Mass by J.S. Bach.
