From 12 to 18 June, Midsummer Mozartiade takes place in the Koninklijke Sint-Hubertusgalerijen in the heart of Brussels, a stone's throw from the Grand Place. To celebrate the 7th edition, the festival presents the opera Die Zauberflöte in the Théâtre Royal des Galeries. Following Mozart's last opera, his Requiem will be performed in the theater by the musicians of CAV&MA from Namen. At the start of the week, the wind quintet BizArt gives a serenade to passersby in the Royal Gallery. To strengthen the bonds between the festival and the Martelarenwijk district, free lectures are held in the Maison CFC on the square of the same name, as well as a free concert in the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw van Finisterraekerk, a beacon of peace on the very busy Nieuwstraat. Thus this 7th edition is marked by renewal.
From 12 to 18 June, the Midsummer Mozartiade festival moves into a new prestigious venue, the Koninklijke Sint-Hubertusgalerijen. In the Théâtre Royal des Galeries, on 16 and 18 June, the flagship production of the 7th edition will be presented. This new production will then tour, on 5 July at the Koninklijk Theater in Bergen and on 8 July, for the first time, at the Grand Manège in Namen. The festival has been carried since 2016 by Amadeus & Co and each summer revives Mozart's masterworks to promote Brussels as a capital with a Mozartian past and a dynamic place of lyrical excellence. It also offers a valuable springboard for emerging lyrical artists.
Die Zauberflöte, Mozart's best-known opera, tells the story of young people seeking love and guidance in a dream world full of trials and mysteries. This new production is Eric Gobal's seventh production for the festival. The production puts Belgian and international emerging artists in the spotlight, lending their voices to Mozart's masterpiece with finesse and imagination. The musical direction was once again entrusted to the young conductor Gabriel Hollander, at the head of the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie, a partner since the festival's inception.
Following Mozart's last opera, his Requiem will be performed on 17 June by the musicians of CAV&MA from Namen, a new major partner of the festival. Thibaut Lenaerts, musical director of the concert, has chosen to entrust the vocal parts to eight singers, all members of the Chœur de chambre de Namur, so that the audience can get as close as possible to the mythical work. To make the festival accessible to everyone, a free vocal and organ concert is held on 15 June, there are free lectures on Mozart and his final works on 15 and 16 June, and musical performances in the Royal Gallery on 12, 13 and 14 June.
