Second edition by Brusselse Orgels 1 to 4.2.2019
From Friday 1 to Monday 4 February, 2019, the Vereniging Brusselse Orgels and ECHO (European Cities of Historical Organs) will let the city's organs resound, from large to small, the most sacred and the most popular, offering Brusselers the opportunity to (re)discover their fabulous heritage on the occasion of the second edition of "This is not a Pipe ... Organ Festival".
From the Sint-Michiels and Sint-Goedelekathedraal to the Koninklijke Kapel and via the Sint-Gorikshallen, the organ will sing for 4 days. It will also be an opportunity to discover 'the fingers' of renowned and young organists. You will witness how organ music can be spatialised in the cathedral, or see how a violinist plays with his feet, on the organ pedal.
The organ is a magical instrument, the enchanting, fantastic sounds that resound from afar yet are so close during our daily journey through the city, without us being aware of this extraordinary heritage.
The aim of this young festival is to reveal in all manner of ways the many facets of this incredible instrument and to admire the surrounding heritage. Does the general public know, for example, that the organ can replace an orchestra on its own?
That the organ was born in the East long before the Christian era? That Brussels has 165 organs?
Programme
4 days, 15 events, 10 venues, 14 organs, 23 organists
- a concert with three organs in the cathedral choir,
- an organ walk from the Karmelietenkerk to the Rijke-Klaren via the Sint-Gorikshallen with the discovery of a positive organ,
- concerts by young organists from Belgian conservatories (Dutch and French-speaking) and a young Russian organist,
- masterclasses given by European masters to students from Germany, Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, France and Belgium.
Brusselse Orgels is an association that brings together organisers of organ concerts in Brussels City under the auspices of the Alderman for Culture. Brusselse Orgels works with ECHO, European Cities of Historical Organs, of which the City of Brussels is a member.
There are magnificent instruments, talented organists, as well as an audience of enthusiasts and discoverers of the organ. All this in the capital of Europe, which played a historical role in the nineteenth century in the development of French and Belgian organ schools.
'Brussel Zijn Orgels' organises almost 120 events per year. From the Renaissance to the contemporary, via the Baroque, the Romantic and the Symphonic: organ culture is infinitely rich.
It is better to experience this rich culture and heritage, to experience "live" the organ in all its states, so the festival "This is not a Pipe Organ Festival ..." launches its second edition in Brussels with the simplicity and humour that characterises our country.
