An enigmatic paradox: although Vivaldi devoted more than 30 years to composing for the Ospedale della Pietà in Venice, no complete liturgical setting from his hand has been preserved. By interweaving existing examples of his religious music (such as the famous Gloria) and other works that received different texts to adapt their new liturgical function (Sanctus and Agnus Dei), the ensemble Les Arts Florissants now offers us a compelling reconstruction of a solemn mass that the "Red-haired Priest" might have written... for precisely such a gathering of exceptional soloists!
