Ex-principal, Royal Ballet of Flanders and now artistic director of Junior Ballet Antwerp, Alain Honorez, proudly presented a new challenging working year on Saturday. The group of 21 young dancers this year counts no fewer than 12 different nationalities, whereby the international allure and reputation of JBA extends far beyond the borders of Belgium. Behind the scenes, hard work has been done over the past months to be able to showcase a dazzling season.
BOLERO X – a collaboration with OBV
This year BOLERO X features on the programme of Opera Ballet Vlaanderen (OBV): the acclaimed choreography of Israeli Shahar Binyamini to the iconic music of Maurice Ravel, performed live by the OBV Symphonic Orchestra. Through a deep bond with his dancers, Shahar pushes the boundaries of traditional dance forms and creates space for creative expression. BOLERO X together with LA VALSE (Nacera Belaza) and LE SACRE DU PRINTEMPS (Pina Bausch) forms OBV's triple bill RITES, which will be seen from January '26 in Ghent and Antwerp. A performance to look forward to. With participation of dancers from Junior Ballet Antwerp and Royal Ballet School Antwerp.
DANCE BYTES #3
Running parallel with BOLERO X, and this year under live accompaniment of piano and violin, the dancers of JBA showcase their inventive talents in self-created choreographies. After more than a successful second edition last June, it is only logical that DANCE BYTES #3 appears on the programme in early 2026.
