French composer Jacques Charpentier (1933 – 2017) wrote his monumental work, 72 Etudes Karnatiques over nearly a thirty year period. Dedicated to Olivier Messiaen, the work resulted from a work with that master, as well as from a two-year stay in India, and his collaboration with Alain Danielou. Italian pianist Giussy Caruso worked on this music with Charpentier himself, and has performed the entire 3-hour work live. This recording is truly an extraordinary accomplishment.
