Man of Many Talents
Carl Heinrich Graun is known as the court conductor of Frederick the Great, but it is less well known that he also enjoyed an important reputation as a singer. His voice is characterized as a "high tenor" with "great lightness". As a "haute-contre" (a tenor with a very high and light voice), Aco Biscevic probably matches this type of voice exactly. Graun composed the three secular cantatas recorded here for the first time for himself. Biscevic is accompanied by the Baroque orchestra of the Thüringen Philharmonie Gotha-Eisenach under Michael Hofstetter.
