A German Passion

The Hanseatic wealth of 17th-century Northern Germany is reflected in magnificent cathedrals, and the enormous splendor of church music was composed to fill the rich acoustics of these spaces. This program presents a broad range of Easter music and showcases the inventiveness of that period by expanding the texts and finding other colors and surprising effects through improvisation and arrangement of the manuscripts.
