A Tres Voces

"In the foreword of their debut CD, which the three ladies of the TriOlogie String Trio, founded in 2019 in Luzern, have named after the title piece "A Tres Voces" (2010) by composer Tania León (*1943), it states: "The sound language of the 20th century has always fascinated us (...). The musical understanding of this era is characterized by intensity and the search for the reconcilability of different influences. This versatility also drives us as artists (...)." The album reflects the desire for diversity on multiple levels: Works by three female and one male composer who come from four different countries (and three continents) and each have enriched the flexible genre of the string trio in a completely different way. The program opens with the brief, extremely concise "Suite for Violin, Viola and Cello" (1923) by Dutch composer Emmy Frensen Wegener (1901-1973), followed by León's "A Tres Voces", in which the composer born in Cuba blends musical elements from her homeland with avant-garde techniques. The "String Trio" (1932) by Australian Miriam Hyde (1913-2005) strikes a neo-romantic tone. However good these works are and however inspiringly they are performed here, the String Trio in A minor (1904) by the (very) German composer Max Reger eclipses them all."
