Abstractions

Anna Clyne, described by the New York Times as a 'composer with extraordinary gifts and unusual methods', is one of the most sought-after composers of the moment and collaborates with orchestras, choreographers, filmmakers and visual artists around the world. Clyne's unique voice blends tradition with postmodern techniques and gives her listeners a sense of musical adventure that is rooted in the past. From the beautiful elegy "Within Her Arms" to the challenging power of "Restless Oceans", Anna Clyne's music strikes a positive and resilient tone. This album is also representative of Clyne's close relationship with Marin Alsop and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. "Abstractions" was a commission for Baltimore and "Restless Oceans" was also written for that orchestra. Marin Alsop is one of the most prominent conductors of our time and is internationally known for her innovative approach to programming and audience development and her strong commitment to education. She is the first and only female conductor to have received a MacArthur Fellowship and the first woman to have been principal conductor of a major orchestra in the United States, South America, Austria and the United Kingdom. Alsop is principal conductor of the ORF Vienna Symphony Orchestra, artistic director and principal conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra of Polish Radio, principal guest conductor of the Philharmonia Orchestra in London, music director emerita and founder of OrchKids of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and principal guest conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra.
