An Afternoon in van Swieten's Salon

Keiko Shichijo: In 1782 Mozart regularly visited a salon sponsored by the Dutch diplomat van Swieten, where he became acquainted with the music of Bach and Händel. This experience led to a change in the composer's own creativity and compositional style, opening him up to new harmonic structures, contrapuntal techniques and dramatic forms of expression. This album offers an insight into the transformation of Mozart's remarkable "musical consciousness". My goal is to convey the impressive expressive power of the performance of Mozart's music in the 19th century, to convey the musical creativity of today.
