An Evening in Vienna 1784

Summit Meeting What a special form of "house concert": In 1784, Joseph Haydn (1st violin), Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf (2nd violin), Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (viola) and Johann Baptist Vanhal (cello) came together for a legendary quartet evening. The Bennewitz Quartet brings this evening back to life, as it were, and has compiled a program that repeats this "summit meeting" of Viennese Classicism, this time with a string quartet by each of the composers. The ensemble's particular refinement also benefits the works by Vanhal and Dittersdorf, which are hardly known today.
