Baroque Concertos

Baroque Expression in a Flowing and Fluid Narrative Alison Balsom is finally back with her core repertoire on a new album: "Baroque Concertos" brings music by baroque masters such as Händel, Telemann, Marcello and Vivaldi, with which the British trumpeter once again demonstrates the virtuoso expression of her playing. SPIEGEL once described it as a fascinating mix of "cool tone and hot expression" - fitting for a musician who knows how to reconcile many things with each other. That Alison Balsom loves contrast is evident from the artistic constellation of the album: here she meets her long-time companion Trevor Pinnock and his Pinnock's Players, proven specialists in historically informed performance practice. Alison Balsom herself can be heard on the modern piccolo trumpet, on which she captures the subtle, versatile sound of the baroque instrument and simultaneously expands it with the possibilities of modern instrument construction. Balsom: "The possibility to perform more chromatic and virtuosic music as it was originally written for violin or oboe solo has fascinated me and my trumpet colleagues since the days of the great Maurice André. With works such as Marcello's immortal Oboe Concerto in D minor or Händel's Concerto grosso HWV 323, she proves on this album that the trumpet can not only shine festively in a baroque context, but also sing smoothly, flow and tell stories.
