Alessandro Scarlatti (1660-1725) and his son Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757) are today the two most well-known representatives of the Scarlatti family of musicians, who were active throughout Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries. Alessandro was one of the most important exponents of the Neapolitan school and was particularly appreciated during his lifetime for his vocal music (operas, oratorios, cantatas, etc.). Today Domenico is best known for his numerous compositions for keyboard instruments, which were written mainly in Spain. Here cantatas by the two composers are effectively combined with sonatas by Domenico.
