Chandos Anthems Nr.6 & 10

Handel's Chandos Anthems Nos. 6 and 10 display great variety in textures and styles – between operatic and solemn – and date from his early years in England. These anthems were intended for the small but excellent ensemble in the service of the nobleman Lord Henry James Brydges, the later Duke of Chandos, who also performed them for the first time. The album also contains an oboe concerto for oboe, strings and basso continuo, which Handel composed in the same period and which contains instrumental parts from other Chandos anthems. The Musica Gloria ensemble emphasizes the original 18th-century English and uses the claviorganum in the continuo, which was highly valued by Handel.
