Chevalier de Saint-Georges Maddalena Lombardini Sirmen

With her debut album on Solo Musica, British-Australian violinist Jordan Hadrill shines the spotlight on two remarkable contemporaries from the eighteenth century: the Creole violin virtuoso and composer Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges (1745–1799), and the Venetian violinist and composer Maddalena Lombardini Sirmen (1745–1818). Both were born in 1745, both were celebrated artists during their lifetimes — and both subsequently disappeared almost entirely from the repertoire, displaced by racism and structural gender discrimination. Hadrill brings this music back to light, together with the Vienna Classical Players conducted by Martin Kerschbaum and violinist Dominika Witowicz. Her album powerfully demonstrates that this is not a historical footnote, but living art with surprising contemporary relevance.
