This album with works for clarinet and piano reflects the special relationship between British composers and the clarinet. The works of Charles Villiers Stanford, an admirer of Brahms, are characterized by beautiful melodies. Gerald Finzi composed his "Five Bagatelles" during the Second World War. They are reminiscent of Bach. The Sonatine by Malcolm Arnold is an energetic work with elements of jazz and dance music.
