Olivier Fortin and Emmanuel Frankenberg present a programme featuring arrangements of French orchestral works for two harpsichords: "This was common practice in the 17th and 18th centuries, allowing people to play the popular melodies they heard in the opera at home or in salons." Among other works, Jean-Philippe Rameau's famous Les Sauvages is heard, which was a hit at the time and was originally composed for solo harpsichord before being orchestrated by the composer for Les Indes galantes. Here you can hear a version for two harpsichords that is closer to the orchestral version. The programme also includes works by Marin Marais, Jean-Henri d'Anglebert, Jacques Champion de Chambonnières, Louis Couperin and Nicolas Lebègue.
Fortin and Frankenberg, who have been musical partners for many years, chose instruments whose tonal colours blend particularly well with the French style, and clearly enjoyed shaping this musical journey: »We conducted intensive research, experimented, explored an enormous repertoire and freely tried out all sorts of possibilities on the instrument to find out what sounds best for two … It is true that a harpsichord sounds like a harpsichord – but two harpsichords sound like four! Together we can go much further in terms of sound.«
