Sir Thomas Beecham distinguished himself as a self-taught musician through his highly personal style and taste, characterized by elegance and charm. His career brought him to stages around the world, where he presented an eclectic repertoire, ranging from Händel and Stravinsky to French composers such as Debussy, Saint-Saëns and Bizet. Beecham left his mark on English music of the twentieth century with the founding of the London Philharmonic Orchestra in 1932 and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 1946. This exceptional box contains all his stereo recordings for Columbia and HMV, including the very first experimental stereo recording of the first movement of Mozart's Symphony No. 41 and the legendary recording of Carmen with Victoria de los Angeles.
